It occurred to me that the ever rising price of gas could have profound effects on the suburban lifestyle. How will we get to our jobs, transport our kids to karate lessons across town and drive to grocery store? Do urban 20-somethings now have a leg up on older suburbanites because they don’t need cars?

Very interesting. I agree that "our" collective suburban lifestyle is collapsing; however, I want it to be "your" problem because I don't want this inconvenient reality to interfere with "my" little suburban Shangri-La. I will be really pissed off if I have to give up my 300 horsepower because of a pesky little detail like $8 a gallon gas. You guys better start conserving!!! Excuse me while I return my head to the sand.
